We are excited to have you join us for the Democracy Day of Action!

This is our chance to speak with our legislators—face to face—about why we need reform.  Lawmakers need to hear directly from us that we expect them to get serious about making our democracy work for everyone.

What We are Advocating For

Activists are coming together for House Bill 2578. HB 2578 would establish small-donor matching for our elections. If candidates agree not to take large campaign contributions, then small-dollar contributions from everyday people are matched and amplified. This means that a candidate can run for office—and win—by refusing big money from special interests.  It means that talented people from a broader spectrum of our communities, even those who don’t have networks of wealthy donors, can run to represent us.  And it means that candidates will spend more time talking to folks like you and me, and not making donor calls to out-of-state corporations.

How will Democracy Day Work?

Activists across the state are gathering together in Salem to call for reform.  We are meeting in the morning first to get briefed on the Legislature, the political dynamics, the bill, and how we can best persuade our lawmakers to support reform.  Then we’ll break out into teams and hold small, intimate meetings with our legislators to tell them about why they should pass HB 2578.

We will gather at the State Library first for the briefing and for breakfast.  Then we will head across the street to the Capitol together.
